What Color Are Newborns Skin

Differences in the color of newborn skin tin can be due to natural pigmentation and likewise a range of conditions that may require further investigation.

The colour of the newborn's skin gives clues about the wellness of the infant and there will also be obvious differences in natural skin colour, due to pigment levels in the skin.

The African-American babe girl on the right, clearly has darker skin than the Caucasian baby on the left. This departure in skin color is due to melanin (the pigment in human skin). Night-skinned babies accept more than melanin in their peel than light-skinned babies. Melanin is produced by cells called melanocytes and autonomously from skin, also gives our hair and eyes their colour.

What about weather that can crusade the peel colour to alter?

Cyanosis

Jaundice is a common status in term babies and occurs in almost all premature babies. Polycythaemia

Some babies are born with a higher than normal level of ruddy blood cells (haematocrit). These neonates are considered to take polycythaemia. They tin be asymptomatic (showing no symptoms) or demonstrate a range of non-specific symptoms. Nigh neonates with polycythaemia will take a ruddy-red, sanguine appearance. This is quite dissimilar from a 'pinkish' baby – and rest assured, the colour difference will be immediately obvious to you.
